VACATION VIA IPHONE

I've never been one to be a huge "iPhoneographer".

That being said, I also haven't been on a vacation in nearly four years, so it was a surprise to me to realize how useful and how fun snapping quick photos with this little tool in my pocket could be. As a former camera salesperson, this was my first real insight into the whole "why do i need a camera? I have my phone!" mindset. I'm still not sure if I like it or not?

Now, don't get me wrong. I took a camera. Duh. I shot nearly 16 rolls of film, which I have been lazy about and YET to get developed. However--I wanted to make a quick share of my iPhone snaps, which I think better represents the impulsive visions seen throughout my time in Washington better than the thoughtful and carefully executed frames from my medium format Fuji.

MADELINE JENNINGS ON FILM, FUJI 645ZI

The inspiration always flows a bit more freely when you are using a camera you love, photographing an individual you have been friends with for years and years. I have known Maddie since college, and to be able to watch her blossom into the talented singer-songwriter she has become has been beautiful to watch. I used the Fuji 645ZI for this shoot because I wanted to achieve a more raw look, especially utilizing the fill flash the camera executes oh-so beautifully. I think the outcome matches the style Maddie tries to achieve in her songs, and I couldn't be happier with the results. Maddie's new EP drops later this month, don't miss it!

FUJIFILM 645ZI, EXPIRED FUJI PRO400H FROM 2009

Just a test roll of expired film I shot at The Great Outdoors, put through a new camera I wasn't sure if I was going to like (I hadn't even purchased it yet)... needless to say, it is my favorite thing in the whole wide world now.  Don't expect to ever find me without it. I haven't felt so inspired to make photos in quite a long time. Fuji just has that effect on me, I guess.

LEICA MINILUX, KODAK GOLD 200

It has been a long time since I took my Leica Minilux out to play. Such a beast of a little camera--I have dropped it and yet it remains functioning and sharp as ever. I forgot how much I love this little camera. Working so much, especially in the camera industry, can sometimes make it easy to forget the fun, the pointlessness, the wonderful randomness that is taking simple snapshots of seemingly nothing. This summer, I hope to have a camera with me everywhere I go.
